Travel Monte Alegre, Brazil

Monte Alegre is about 120km downstream from Santarém and is dotted with caves and bizarre and rocky outcrops, which are covered with ancient drawings. The drawings are believed to be around 11,000 years old and are the oldest known human creations in the Amazon and maybe even in all of Brazil. Tours of Monte Alegre can be booked in Santarém and Alter do Chão. Do it yourself tours can also be accomplished, but be sure to contact Nelsí Sadeck ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
