Travel Arraial d'Ajuda, BrazilArraial d’Ajuda used to be where wealthy tourists fled, but in recent years a new wave of backpackers and new age hippies has brought in some flavor. This has given Arraial d’Ajuda a variety of sleeping and eating options hidden among the tropical vegetation. There is also a happening but laid-back nightlife, especially during the high season, both in town and at the beach. 
Eco Parque (adult/child R$45/23), Latin America’s largest water park, is also located here. It has water slides, a lazy river, and a wave pool, and is definitely worth a visit. You can also rent kayaks or ride zip-lines to have some fun. The main tourist beach, Praia do Mucugê, is crowded and loud, but if you head south the beaches get more tranquil. Offshore there is a reef that shelters the beaches. Around the point the beaches are hit by strong waves, but the beaches are still beautiful and very enjoyable. From Porto Seguro (16 hours) you can head to low-key Arraial d'Ajuda (ferry from Porto Seguro; pedestrians R$2.50 with free return, vehicle ferry R$9.50 to R$11.50, then hop on a bus or Kombi van, R$1.60).To get to Itacaré get on a bus from Porto Seguro and go to Itabuna or Ilheus. Rota has frequent buses from both of these towns, R$10.50 2.5 hours and R$7.50 1.5 hours, respectively. It making all of these transfers is too much for you to handle, then just stopover in Ilheus – a very lovely town with a great location. |
